Computer Programming

 

Fundamentals of Computer Programming

Prerequisite:None 

This hands-on course provides a comprehensive introduction to programming and builds a solid foundation of programming skills that can be used to master more robust programming languages like C, C++, or Java. Participants will write, compile, and debug programs in C++. Course is designed for computer users, Web Developers, system administrators, technical managers, or others who want to develop programming skills. 

Topics include:* introduction to programs * writing, running programs * data types and variables * operators and expressions * input/output * programming logic * functions * aggregate data types * introduction to object-oriented programming * file input/output * debugging * guidelines for creating quality code

Fee: $745, twenty-four hour course 
Includes the book "Introduction to Computer Science with C++" by Lambert, Nance, and Naps

 

C++ Programming

Prerequisite:Programming in C or a working knowledge of the C language and skill with Windows. 

This hands-on course is designed for professional programmers, managers of software development, software support staff, and documentation personnel. Participants will gain a solid grasp of the characteristics of the C++ programming language, including key features that contribute to object-oriented software development. 

Topics include: * why C++? * input and output in C++ programs * functions classes * storage management * initialization * inheritance * polymorphism and virtual functions. Borland's Turbo C++ 4.5 for Windows will be used. 

Fee: $895, twenty-four hour course. 

 

Introduction to Microsoft Visual C++ with MFC 5.0

Prerequisite:Ability to code in C++ and skill with Microsoft Windows. Exposure to Windows programming concepts via Visual Basic or other language is helpful. This hands-on course is designed for programmers who want to begin to develop applications with Microsoft Visual C++. 

Topics include: * exploring the MFC architecture * using Microsoft Developer Studio * using MFC document-view architectures * building dialogs and dialog-only applications * working with form views and toolbars * mapping messages to controls and member functions. Software used is Microsoft Visual C++ 5.0

Fee: $775, twenty-four hour course includes the book Mastering Visual C++ and a syllabus 

 

 

Programming Windows Applications with Visual Basic

Prerequisite:Knowledge of basic programming concepts (BASIC or Pascal or C) 

Participants in this hands-on course will learn to develop Windows applications using Microsoft Visual Basic 5.0. 

Topics include: * exploring the programming environment * building applications * writing, debugging code * using forms, variables, procedures, controls * creating menus * handling errors * overview of accessing data. Microsoft Visual Basic 5.0, Professional Edition will be used. 

Fee: $665, eighteen hour course. 

 

 

Visual Basic - Database Programming

Prerequisite:Programming Windows Applications with Visual Basic or equivalent knowledge with VB programming,
experience with database design and SQL. Course is designed for those who want to develop database applications with VB. 

Topics: * using the data control for simple maintenence applications * developing applications using Data Access Objects * viewing,editing the database structure * using SQL in VB programs * overviewing of reporting, other data access models. Microsoft Visual Basic 5.0 Professional Eddition will be used. 

Fee: $665, eighteen-hour course. 

 

SQL: Fundamentals of Querying

Prerequisite: A working knowledge of database structures, terminology, either PC or mainframe-based SQL (Standard Query Language) allows you to ask questions of a database, PC or mainframe. Ideally, the information gained will help to answer a business question. This six-hour course will provide the learner with a good grasp of SQL. 

Topics include: * writing , executing SQL queries with SELECT and FROM statements * calculating data* using WHERE, LIKE, wildcards, logical operators, NULLS * using clauses to group data * selecting information from two or more tables simultaneously * using other SQL front-end applications

Fee: $215, six-hour course

 

 

Java Programming

Prerequisite: Programming experience in C or C++ 

Interest in the Java language is "hot" due to its portability across platforms and its use for programming software for the World Wide Web. In this 39-hour course you will move from Java basics to intermediate and advanced topics. 

Topics include: * learning the Java environment * Java fundamentals developing Java applets * classes, arrays, and strings * exceptions * I/O streams * security * trends with Java. Textbook, workbook, and diskette are included. Course uses JDK 1.13 and the Hot Java browser. 

Fee: $1,150, thirty-nine hour class.
